After much of the losses both at the personal end as well as the professional end, UBER CEO Travis Kalanick put his papers down upon the requests of the investors clan, which wanted him to get off as the company had suffered a huge loss as a brand post the Sexual Harassment Case.
Now the Uber Board has selected Dara Khosrowshahi (Chief of Expedia) to take a company which needs fixes right from the culture to product innovation. He was filtered amongst 3 of the top Industry leaders viz Jeffrey R. Immelt, the former chief of General Electric, Meg Whitman, the chief of Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Nikesh Arora Ex CEO Softbank.
Out of the above listed leaders speculations about Jeffrey R. Immelt, the former chief of General Electric to be selected as CEO was trending high however it finally settled when he tweeted that he shall not be pursuing it further.
What will be important to see is that the Taxi app behemoth had been experiencing a deluge of resources, culture and businesses. Due to the current crisis Uber has sold some of it existing businesses to its competitors because of the leadership crisis. Also some of the top leaders (apart from CEO and Board) left the company post the issues related to sexual harassment surfaced.
Dara Khosrowshahi : Father of four, Tech Geek and an expensive CEO
Dara Khosrowshahi is an Iranian-American businessman and the CEO of Expedia. He comes from an Iranian family that founded Alborz Investment Company, which is a diversified business conglomerate entity into chemical, od, distribution, packaging, trading, and services. He started his career in an investment bank Allen & Company and with his leadership and business acumen rose to the CEO of Expedia.
He was married to Sydney Shapiro (Actress Hollywood) in 2012 and has four children. As some of the Industry to leaders he also has a history of various awards and recognition primary of them are Ernst & Young – Pacific Northwest Entrepreneur of the Year award recipient and Listed member of Prominent Iranian Americans in U.S. State Department.
He is a great critic of the US president Donald Trump and in one of the tweets he mentioned “I keep waiting for the moment when our Prez will rise to the expectations of his office and he fails, repeatedly.”
Currently Khosrowshahi has vested shares worth $180 million in Expedia and he is expected to look forward to make huge pile of money (in billions) with his association with UBER. He has been one of the most expensive CEO and will try and take on the task of reviving Uber only if is compensated well
